What Foods should You Avoid

The followings are gastric irritants and should be eliminated initially, then gradually introduced into the diet to determine your tolerance to them. 
  • Caffeine containing products (such as coffee, tea, cola, cocoa, chocolate)
  • Alcoholic beverages and beers
  • Fried or high fat containing foods
  • Strong spices, especially black pepper, or chili powder
  • Tomato-based sauces
  • Onions, hot peppers, cabbage, corn, lettuce, and other raw vegetables
  • Junk foods and fast foods
  • Raw vegetable salads


What should You Eat

Try small servings of one food at a time. Those that cause discomfort should be avoided. If there is no discomfort following ingestion of a new food item, it can be incorporated into your diet on a regular basis, unless the doctor has advised otherwise. You can Eat the following foods,
  • Lean meats (chicken, turkey, fish) and pork
  • White bread and toast
  • Rice and pasta
  • Cooked vegetables (except irritants)
  • Cottage cheese
  • Bananas
  • Mild fruit juices (without pulp)
  • Low-fat butter or margarine and other foods
  • Cooked vegetables (except onions, hot peppers, cabbage, corn, coriander and lettuce)
  • Canned or cooked fruits
  • Gelatin
  • Potatoes
  • Low-fiber cereals (Rice Krispies, Special K, Corn Flakes, etc.)
  • Sherbet
